Double success for HCC apprentices

11th Dec 2023

Legal apprentices Manchester

A massive congratulations to apprentices Ellie and Luke on their graduations from the University of Law!

We are delighted to confirm that two apprentices at HCC have now graduated from the University of Law as part of their Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship. This means, after passing their exams early next year, Ellie Young and Luke Trudgeon will become fully qualified solicitors.

The Level 7 Legal Apprenticeship is a six-year Solicitor Apprenticeship with the scheme including all of the content in a law degree whilst giving a practical and work-based route into law.

Ellie and Luke will fully complete their apprenticeship next year after they sit their Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).  Obtaining the degree is a big step towards completion.

Ellie and Luke started their career at HCC as Customer Service Administrators but moved on to different roles within the company as they progressed. Ellie is a Defendant Litigation Executive who will soon be moving into the Multi-track Serious Injuries team (MTSI) as a paralegal and Luke is a paralegal in the Clinical Negligence team.

HCC was delighted to fund their journey to develop their career in law for the past six years, studying one day per week at the University of Law and working the other 4 days in the Manchester office gaining practical experience whilst becoming integral parts of their teams.

We are very proud of both Ellie and Luke as they continue in the final stages of their journey and we wish them all of our best in their upcoming exams and are excited to see them developing their careers even further with HCC as fully qualified solicitors.

Luke Trudgeon said:

“Obtaining my degree is a huge achievement and I am extremely proud of myself for managing to do this alongside my job. This would not have been possible without the continued support from everyone at HCC but in particular my supervisors Emma Richards and Vicky Hewes. The firm places such a huge emphasis on providing the necessary tools to progress and there is a fantastic support network in place to allow apprentices to thrive.”

Ellie Young said:

“I am incredibly proud of myself for having completed my law degree alongside working. I am really appreciative of HCC Solicitors’ ongoing support and their professional development opportunities allowing me to acquire transferrable skills for both my academic learning and in the workplace. Apprentices can succeed because the firm prioritises giving them the resources they need to advance, and it has an excellent support system to help them succeed.”

Rob Myer, Director at HCC, said:

“We are delighted to see Ellie and Luke, who joined our firm when they were 18 years old come so far and graduate with a law degree. HCC is committed to supporting the next generation of solicitors coming through the ranks and it is hugely rewarding to see two apprentices in our business achieve this success.

“We are pleased to be diversifying access routes into supported qualification roles beyond traditional training contracts and our investment in aspiring solicitors who enter the legal profession will continue.”
