Court of Protection Solicitor – Birmingham

Location: Birmingham

We are looking for a talented and experienced Private Client Solicitor to join our team of highly experienced lawyers based in our Birmingham office. The successful candidate will offer assistance to the Deputy and Head of the Court of Protection team with their high valued cases, whilst being able to gain some valuable experience in a well-established award-winning law firm.

The role will comprise the following duties:

  • Managing new enquiries
  • Drafting Deputyship applications
  • Drafting and dealing with routine correspondence
  • Liaising with family members, care homes, case managers and financial advisors
  • Drafting Wills
  • Inheritance tax and estate planning
  • Drafting Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Setting up Trusts
  • Trust registration
  • Dealing with Probate and estate administration
  • Diary Management
  • Use of in-house case management system
  • Research using internal resources
  • Keeping clients updated in a clear and empathetic manner
  • Working to court and procedural deadlines
  • Maintaining awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Mental Capacity Code of Practice and Court of Protection Rules

Essential skills:

  • Previous experience of working in a Court of Protection or Private Client department
  • Experience within an office environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent people skills and able to build a good rapport with vulnerable clients and third parties
  • IT Skills such as Word/ Outlook/ Excel
