Our specialist team have represented hundreds of children and their families over the years. Here is just one example of the people we have helped.

Case Study: Adam’s Journey – A Story of Hope, Healing, and Justice

When four-year-old Adam* returned from a family holiday abroad, what began as a seemingly routine illness quickly escalated into a medical emergency. Adam became critically ill, and despite the best efforts of doctors, he suffered a severe acquired brain injury.

Adam was now facing a very different future. He was diagnosed with global developmental impairment, a movement disorder with dystonic movements, seizures, cortical visual impairment, and required gastronomy feeding. His world, and that of his family, had changed forever.

Turning to HCC Solicitors

Overwhelmed but determined to secure the best possible future for their son, Adam’s parents turned to HCC Solicitors. From the outset, our team understood the gravity of Adam’s condition and the long-term care he would require.

We immediately took action, securing interim payments and funding to ensure Adam’s urgent needs could be met without delay. These funds enabled the family to put in place a 24-hour care package, ensuring Adam had round-the-clock support from trained professionals.

A Home for Life

Recognising the importance of a stable and accessible environment, we facilitated the purchase and extensive adaptation of a property tailored to Adam’s complex needs. This was not just a house. It was a home designed to support Adam’s safety, comfort, and dignity. It is anticipated that Adam will live there for the rest of his life.

To manage his affairs, one of our Court of Protection specialists was appointed Deputy, ensuring that Adam’s property and financial matters would be handled with care and legal oversight.

Rebuilding Through Rehabilitation

We also instructed a dedicated case manager to coordinate a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. This included:

  • Occupational Therapy to help Adam engage with daily activities
  • Physiotherapy to manage his movement disorder and improve mobility
  • Speech & Language Therapy to support communication and feeding
  • Visual Assistance to help him navigate the world with cortical visual impairment
  • Neuropsychology to address cognitive and emotional challenges

This multidisciplinary approach was not just about recovery. It was about giving Adam the best quality of life possible.

A Future with Support and Security

Adam’s family no longer had to face the future alone. They had a team fighting for their son’s rights, ensuring he had access to the care, resources, and environment he needed.

Adam’s journey is far from over, but with the right support in place, his story is one of resilience, advocacy, and hope.

They were friendly, very approachable, professional, demonstrated great empathy and supported both my wife and I through every step of the process. Especially when some of the information that had to be relayed by them to us was very difficult to hear.
