HCC Solicitors Shortlisted for Three Awards at the Twilight Awards 2026
28th Jul 2026
We’re delighted to share the news that HCC Solicitors has been shortlisted for three categories at this year’s Twilight Awards. It’s a fantastic recognition of the work our Court of Protection team does every day for some of the most vulnerable people in society, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Michelle Weaver, Head of our Court of Protection team, has been shortlisted for both Professional Deputy of the Year and Court of Protection Lawyer of the Year. And the wider team has been shortlisted for Older and Vulnerable Client Team Outstanding Service. Three shortlists, one team, and a lot of hard work behind every single one of them.
A practice built from the ground up
Our Court of Protection practice launched in November 2023, and has since become something that families, charities and professionals across the country have come to trust. Michelle spends all of her time on Court of Protection work, from deputyship appointments and managing property and financial affairs, to health and welfare applications and safeguarding.
What really sets Michelle apart is the balance she strikes between technical rigour and genuine compassion. She’s known for stepping in during a family’s most difficult moments, often after a previous deputy has let them down, and quietly puts things right. A recent Office of the Public Guardian assurance visit, described Michelle’s processes as “exceptionally well organised” and not something commonly seen across firms. That’s testament to the robust systems she’s put in place and a team that works tirelessly alongside the safeguarding registers, escalation processes and financial oversight that keep clients protected.
A team that works as one
The Older and Vulnerable Client Team shortlisting reflects something the whole department believes in: that no client is ever “just a file”. Cases are discussed collectively, support is shared, and everyone from senior practitioners to paralegals play a part in making sure clients feel heard and protected.
One family who came to the team after losing confidence in a previous deputy put it simply: the outcome was “life-changing”. It’s the kind of outcome that doesn’t happen by chance. It happens because a team of people genuinely care about getting it right for each other and for their clients.
Martin James, Director at HCC, said:
“Being shortlisted for three awards at the Twilight Awards is a huge achievement, and thoroughly deserved. Michelle and her team work with people at some of the hardest moments in their lives, and they do it with a level of care and professionalism that speaks for itself. Whatever happens on the night, they’ve already shown what it means to put families first. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
We’ll find out how we’ve done at the Twilight Awards ceremony on 12 November in London. Wherever the evening takes us, this shortlisting is a well-earned moment to celebrate the people who make our Court of Protection team what it is.
